Vampires have always been the most adored "monsters" of the media
scene and the most popular. It often makes us real human Vampyres
wonder why? I however believe it is possibly because of what we are?
We seem to draw them to us naturally to get what we need whether we
mean to or not. The Vampire enthrall is one of few things they may
have gotten right about us? A lot of people don't fear us they want to
be us? They have this fictional view of what a Real Vampyre is in
there mind and we get the all to common "bite me" or "make me" into
one us us. Many Human Vampyres in the scene are looked down upon
because there lifestyle does not fit everyone else s in the community
but everyone is different and one person will never be able to
represent us all since no one vampyre is the same. No matter who goes
to the media and tries to shed light on our many dark stereotypes they
cant possibly represent the whole community.
The Media can be used to our advantage if it is done right;
unfortunately it is a hard thing to do if they refuse to believe in
the reality they do not want to see. The media has been seen as our
worst enemy but can also be a helpful friend IF a more positive
outlook is shown; though it rarely is sadly. Too many of us in the
community fear shedding light on there lifestyle because they are
afraid they will be looked down upon in the community as well as there
family and friends. Of course there are many in the community who
believe what we are should be kept secret as well as the community; of
course that may lead the world to believe we are a secretive cult and
we sure do not want that. However I am sure many of us do have family
and friends who would not understand as well as there job and that I
understand. Those who have nothing to worry about should feel free to
help the community by explaining to the world we are not the fictional
monsters of the old myths or even the fictional immortal blood suckers
of modern media.
If they even want to believe that we can possibly take energy or that
drinking blood is a need we have at all. The world we live in is a
product of the culture that surrounds it and the beliefs of that
culture. The people in small villages such as Romania and Transylvania
still believe in the old myths and undead Vampires they were taught to
fear as children so if they believed us to be one of them our
community might want to stay out of that media coverage; you can
still to this day find "Vampire hunting kits" on ebay with everything
you need to kill the fictional undead Vampire. However unfortunately
most of the world views those of us who claim to be Vampyres as either
mentally unstable, out for attention, freaks, or a product of a bad
family life or a bad life in general. Nothing good can come of this if
the world thinks we are nothing more than the criminal vampire or
Freaks and monsters of the current media.
There are several of us in the community who are trying to change
these opinions and I believe that should be encouraged; as long as
they are helping the community and not adding more fuel to the fire.
Then again everyone's views, beliefs, and lifestyle is different and
not everyone will believe in everything they say even if they are
doing the best they can to help. Peoples core beliefs are often
embedded into them and a product of how they were raised and there
community. That can be a good thing; showing the world that we are not
all the same and the stereotype they place on us. I hope then to see a
wide variety of Vampyres adding in the rein lighting of how the world
views us; if even possible? However many communities such as the
Homosexual Community is still trying to be excepted and the
African-American Community has (still has in many areas) had a long
road to equality; just now having an African-American president
finally elected.
With all of this in mind it will most likely be a long path to some
acceptance and maybe even equality? Though this is going to be a hard
road with so many authors like Dion Fortune and Konstantinos writing
books labeling us as worst parasites and leaches of the world. I am
glad to see Vampyres such as Michelle Balenger, Sanguinarous, Lady CG,
among several others Myself included as well as authors who are not
identified as Vampyres such as Kathrine Ramsland, Norine Dresser,
Rosemary Ellen Guiley and others writing books with a more positive
outlook on the community. Perhaps eventually we will be looked at more
positively in time if more people step up to the plate and show that
we are more than just the parasites and crazy people too much of the
media and judgmental authors have shown us to be. That of course is up
to us and I hope not to upset the community but we do not to try and
do what we can to shed a more positive outlook on us.
